The coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult to move systems due to travel restrictions being in place. Baumann Automation reacted to the current situation by introducing the "Baumann Smart Service App".
With the "Baumann Smart Service" app, the company offers a diagnostic tool featuring Augmented Reality in order to provide the customers with virtual support and guarantee the best possible system availability.
Baumann Smart Service App
The app is very easy for customers to use! All they need to do is download and install it on an Android smartphone. The app allows them to send messages to the Baumann Service Team or start a support session.
Smart glasses (data glasses)
The smart glasses (data glasses) act like a "digital eye" during diagnostic procedures. Baumann Automation makes the data glasses available to customers – alternatively they can use the camera on their Android smartphone as the "digital eye".
The status of the system, the mechanics and so on are streamed through the data glasses to the Baumann operator in the service office, who can then provide the customer with targeted virtual support. It is also possible to transmit important information (drawings, plans, etc.) to the data glasses display or to the Android smartphone.
Another good thing about the data glasses is that they allow acceptance procedures to take place virtually. The advantage for the customer is that they no longer need to travel to the site.
Specific example: disassembly and installation with virtual support
For one customer, Baumann Automation moved assembly lines, handling and test cells from one location to another. Because the coronavirus positivity rates do not allow physical presence on-site, the decision was made to use the data glasses for disassembly and assembly.
For the disassembly procedure, the customer used the data glasses while the Baumann Service Team guided them with instructions. The data glasses also offer a recording function! They recorded the entire disassembly procedure. While the system was being assembled at the destination, the operator was able to watch the video of the disassembly and this made for easier installation.
The customers were also provided with data glasses at the destination for installing and assembling the system. The Baumann Service Team instructed the customer remotely and provided support all the way through to operational handover.
The example shows how data glasses can be used to move complex assembly lines without a problem in virtual fashion.
Data security
The security of customer data has the highest priority at Baumann Automation. We control the app and transmit data only if the customer – as the user – instructs us to do so with their consent. The data itself is transmitted via an encrypted VPN tunnel. The transmission server is installed at Baumann Automation and guarantees secure data transmission.
